I don't know about you, but all through my teaching degree at uni, it was all about pedagogy and not so much about mindset and wellbeing. Through my 7 years of teaching, I have come to learn that it is so important to be intentional about adopting a positive mindset.

Through cultivating a positive mindset, it will help you to keep the passion you have for teaching at the forefront of your mind. It will also build up the resilience you’ll need to thrive in such an important and sometimes difficult and draining job.

Staying positive, even in difficult times, is a must to help you get through the tough times that we all know comes with the territory. It helps us build resilience along the way, and boy, don't we know that we need it!

When you get down to it, there’s not much point focusing on the negatives… this only keeps you feeling frustrated and down.

Positive affirmations are statements that we can use to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts. And when these are repeated over and over, they will help to challenge the unconscious patterns of inner self-talk that we all have.

Affirmations are a powerful strategy that positively impacts the way you think… This thinking then affects what you say, what you dwell on and ultimately impacts your actions – both positively and negatively.

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right."

Our mindset and the way that we think and respond to situations is so very important in our day-to-day. Here are some affirmations that have helped me build up that positive mindset of mine - I hope that they help you in your own journey too! ❤️

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “have an attitude of gratitude”. Chances are as a teacher, you might say that a lot to your own students!

But how often do you press the pause button on your life and actually stop to be grateful for what you have in your life?

I’ve been consciously practising gratitude for almost a year now. Every morning, when I get out of bed, the first thought that I have is one thing that I’m grateful for. Before I go to bed, the last thought on my mind is also one thing that I’m grateful for.

Might sound simple, but boy, it was difficult to begin with! There were times when I felt like there was absolutely nothing to be grateful for, and even times when I felt like I was forcing gratitude into my life. A shift in perspective has really helped along the way. It’s okay if you find that you’re thinking of the same thing over and over. It’s also okay to feel like there are days when it’s hard to think of something to be grateful for. Let me tell you straight up - there are going to be those days.

By practising gratitude consistently though, you’ll begin to see the wonder and the good that is all around you, and the effect that that has on your life... I can’t even describe it!

This is something that I also aim to teach my students in my work. There’s always something to be grateful for, no matter how small it may seem.

So... After all of that...

✨ What are you grateful for today? ✨

Share with me down below in the comments, I would love to know! ❤️

Compassion is the ability to feel sympathy and sadness for the suffering or distress of others, combined with a wish to help them alleviate it. Self-compassion is the ability to show the exact same compassion to yourself in moments of suffering and distress. When we are able to be gentle with ourselves, we are more likely to be able to lend a helping hand to others who are in need!

I am a massive fan of Kristin Neff's work in this area of self-compassion. I believe that there is so much good that can come from actually being able to consciously be self-compassionate, especially in a giving profession such as ours as teachers!

In my role as a coach, self-compassion is one of the biggest things that I love to discuss and bring to the table and teach it to my clients. So often, I find myself hearing teachers feeling guilty about taking a break from work on the weekends when there's a whole lot to do. I also know of so many teachers (me included!) who identify as perfectionists and so often we give ourself such a hard time if we make a mistake along the way.

Self-compassion techniques allow us to transform our mindset from the inside, and it teaches us to forgive ourselves for our mistakes rather than get hung up on them. Self-compassion also allows us to find common ground with others, which is so very important in a relational job like ours.

Over the next week, I'm going to be showing up live every day to share more about self-compassion and what you can do to cultivate more of it in your life! Can't wait to bring this content to you.

I would love for you to drop an emoji down below in the comments if you are interested in learning more about this! 👇

This time that we are living in seems really uncertain, and the changes that keep coming our way are happening so rapidly. It's no wonder that people are feeling the overwhelm setting in, the burnout setting in, and it's only the start of the year! As a huge supporter of teacher well-being, I am here in my role as a coach to remind you that you are important. You deserve to put yourself first, and you deserve to take good care of yourself.

As I said in my latest Instagram post, you cannot pour from an empty cup! It's important that you take good care of yourself before you can expect to take good care of your students. It is real easy to feel like the to-do list is never-ending, and also it is usually at this time of the term that our boundaries around work get tossed out of the way. I am here to remind you that it's more important - now more than ever - to set boundaries in place, especially if you find yourself working from home again.

Give yourself a chance to break your day up - whether it's going out for a walk around the block, or setting aside time to cook dinner, or even just putting the TV on and watching something for a bit. It is so essential that you give yourself time to switch off from the work day, especially as work has taken over the home environment again as we work from home again here in Victoria.

I have written the bulk of this caption while out on my walk after day 1 of remote learning today. The creative juices are flowing, and I am planning for more different ways to support YOU in my role as a coach!

A podcast is in the works, and I would love for your input into the topics that you might like explored in the podcast. This podcast is going to be a space to explore the many topics and blocks that teachers face day-to-day - things like organisation, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and so much more!

I want this platform to be a space that is going to be of value to you! Let me know down below in the comments the challenges that you face, and the mindset blocks that you might want to tackle in this school year and beyond! 👇

It's been a while since I last posted here! As teachers, we all know how busy the beginning of the year is. I was really enjoying the first two weeks of the term, and definitely felt like I was beginning to settle into a good rhythm, which I'm sure many of you teachers will be able to relate to! And then... yesterday happened 😂

Lockdown 3.0 in Victoria was announced around midday yesterday, and there certainly was a collective anxious energy that hit. We had to kick into gear to plan for what the next week is going to look like. The eternal optimist in me knows that we've done this before, and we can do it again.

However, I also do know that these rapid changes in routines have massive impacts on one's mental health and wellbeing! It brings me to this quote here, that I love to share with all my teacher friends. I personally feel that it sums up the importance of teacher wellbeing, as we cannot expect to fill our students' cups up if our own cups are not filled up.

I encourage you, particularly if you are a teacher based in Victoria, if you're not already doing it today - to take some time out for yourself just to kick back and let yourself feel into all the emotions that you might be feeling today. You deserve to give yourself permission to feel it all.

I am here to support you through it. If you need a sounding board, if you need a listening ear, I'm here for it all. Please don't hesitate to reach out, lovely ones!

As the new school year begins here down under, this is truly my wish for every single teacher and educator.

Make 2021 the year that you choose every day to consciously put yourself first. Teacher wellbeing is something that doesn't get talked about too often in schools, and I am on a mission to change this!

The best way that we can show up for our students is to show up fully for ourselves and commit to developing ourselves in a healthy way. I firmly believe that flourishing teachers lead to flourishing students.

And this is exactly why I have created The Flourishing Teacher - my signature 12-week group coaching program that's created by a teacher, just for teachers!

Think personal development for teachers! In The Flourishing Teacher, I support you through shifting your mindset to avoid burnout, all while achieving balance and learning how to truly love yourself so that you can achieve your goals, reach your full potential and live a life truly from the heart in order to flourish.

I am here to support you through this crazy time of the year as we dive head first into the term. I would love to have you join this amazing group of teachers who are choosing to say yes to themselves, and to begin flourishing this year.

Also, a reminder that the first 3 signups get a BONUS 60-minute 1-1 call with me to set yourself up real well for the school year - cart closes middle of next week, so get yourself in ASAP! It would be an absolute honour to hold this space for you beautiful souls x

Oh, if I could go back in time to talk to my younger self - that bright-eyed and bushy-tailed graduate teacher who was ready to step into the teaching world after completing her teaching degree...

I remember feeling anxious and excited as I looked forward to beginning my very first day of that school year. I was so ready to form fabulous positive relationships with my students.

I also remember being wildly ambitious and driven, and I was dedicated to my job and my students. Don't get me wrong, I knew that I was doing exactly what I have been put in this world to do.

However, in those first 3-4 years, I remember finding myself working all through the day and late into the night planning and marking. It was literally plan, teach, mark, repeat and I found myself stuck in this vicious cycle which led to burnout coming into my fifth year of teaching!

I got to the point in my career where I felt stressed and overwhelmed and wasn’t being as productive as I could be.

My to-do list was overflowing and seemed to be never-ending, adding to the feeling of never ending pressure and failure to do the best work that I could and that knowing that I wasn't making the impact I knew I could.

On top of that, I wasn’t taking any time out for myself and was pushing my body to its limits because I didn’t have time.

I see so many teachers get stuck in this vicious thought cycle time after time. And, I'm here to tell you that it doesn't need to be this difficult!

All you really need is support from someone who understands exactly what you're going through and can share with you ways to implement strategies to help you cultivate that balance that I know you so badly want.

This is exactly why I have created "The Flourishing Teacher" - a 12-week group coaching program just for teachers beginning in Feb. Enrolments are now open - link in bio for more info! And as usual, if you have any questions at all, and I mean any question... Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me!

There are so many coping strategies to help us manage our day to day stress and anxiety - both healthy and unhealthy! This list is by no means an extensive list, but I hope that it gives you an idea on how you can reflect on your coping strategies, and make any changes if you need to.

In The Flourishing Teacher, which is my signature 12-week group coaching program for teachers, we will be exploring how respond to stress, and we will also be discussing ways on how to shift our unhealthy strategies to some more healthy ones!

It would be an absolute honour to start the school year with you and an amazing group of teachers who are ready to put themselves first and be more aware and mindful of choices that they make every day. Feel free to visit the LINK IN BIO to get more information, or DM me if you have any questions!

    P O W E R T H O U G H T S Did you know tha P O W E R T H O U G H T S

Did you know that on average we produce as many as 50000 thoughts per day? Our minds are incredibly active. It’s important to note, though, that up to 98% of these thoughts are the same ones you had yesterday, the day before and the day before that.

Unfortunately, we are wired in such a way that up to 80% of our thoughts are negative (damn that negativity bias!) For many people, negative thinking is so normal that it is as natural as breathing. When the running commentary in your mind is negatively influenced, you will beat yourself up for every perceived mistake, criticising yourself for not measuring up to the all-singing, all-dancing version of perfection that your internal judge thinks you should adhere to.

So what can we do to help shift and own our mindsets and beliefs? One simple step that you can take to begin this journey is by consciously choosing new power thoughts. It's all about being aware of our negative thoughts, releasing them, and then choosing newer, nourishing power thoughts.

This will lead to more self-confidence, which in turn feeds into every area of your life and leads to success in all aspects!

In my group coaching program 'THE FLOURISHING TEACHER', we dive into acknowledging the limiting beliefs that creep in and get in the way of our lives. We don't just look at what we say to ourselves, we begin to discover WHY we talk to ourselves the way we do. From there, we start shifting those beliefs to more positive ones that will set us up to create a life that we love.

If you would like to join a wonderful group of teachers to set yourself up with strategies and support to help you ditch the burnout and set yourself up with sustainable practices going forward in your teaching life, head to the *link in bio* to take you to the enrolment page! I would love to have you in there ❤️

I would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation who are the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and learn. I would also like to pay respect to the Wurundjeri Elders, past and present, and extend this respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait people from other communities.
